commitment & ethics

- What Man owes to himself and to Nature -

Protecting the environment and guaranteeing the future of generations to come is a commitment to which the world of jewelry must contribute more than ever. Therefore, responsibility and sustainability are the intrinsic ethical values of the Capucine H brand, from the traceability of a stone to the vocation of the jewel, through its manufacture.

THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS

Gold & silver
Gold mining is one of the most destructive operations for the environment: in terms of mining waste (20 tons for a single gold ring) and greenhouse gas emissions (381.0 kg CO2e for 10 g), as well as mercury and cyanide released into nature. This is why all Capucine H jewels are made with 18-carat gold or recycled silver.

Metals have the ability to be recycled over and over again without degrading their properties. Recycled gold is therefore identical in appearance and quality to new gold, and comes from different sources: mainly old jewelry (90%), but also electronic, dental or manufacturing waste.

Diamonds & gemstones
The diamonds used are old diamonds recovered from old jewelry and reused. The colored stones come from suppliers carefully chosen for their values and ethics. Sapphires are unheated and untreated (this represents about 2% of the market).

No rhodium plating
a very large part of the white gold jewelry found on the market is rhodium plated. This is a micro layer of rhodium plated on the initial jewel and which tends to fade with time. This process gives a whiter reflection, but is unfortunately very toxic, because the solution contains toxic chemicals such as cyanide or sulfuric acid.

White gold jewelry is not rhodium plated, so the color has a slightly darker hue.

The production

Parisian production
The pieces are made by Capucine and her network of artisans, in her workshop in the Paris region. This very local production limits the carbon footprint of each piece of jewelry, and also ensures the ethics and respect in which the jewelry is made.

Packaging
The brand is careful to use packaging that limits its impact on the environment, with manufacturing sites in Europe and a more responsible choice of materials.

The slow fashion

Capucine H jewelry does not follow the trend (fast fashion). Capucine Huguet's creations are meant to be cherished and passed on from generation to generation. Capucine H's commitment: to make people buy less but better, while making it a point of honor to focus on quality.

FAIRNESS

The more Man takes from Nature, the more he must give back. Based on this conviction and while striving to make its customers aware of the climate emergency, Capucine Huguet has therefore chosen to donate a portion of its sales each month to Climeworks.

This Swiss start-up, founded by two mechanical engineers in 2009, captures the CO2 contained in the ambient air by filtering it. With this innovative technology, which has already proven itself in Iceland, the company is responding to one of the most urgent challenges of our time: global warming.

My business is not perfect, and my journey is not over in terms of my environmental and ethical responsibility. But I strive to have minimal impact on the environment and hope to improve over time. We all need to protect our planet, and every little step counts.
